About Northwind Studio
We are a six-person studio in Leeds. We design and build websites and internal tools for teams who have outgrown a template but do not want an agency retainer.
Most of our work starts the same way: something that worked at twenty people is breaking at eighty. We rebuild the part that is breaking, and leave the rest alone.
Who we work with
Our typical clients are scale-ups between series A and series B. You have a product that people pay for, a team that is adding headcount every quarter, and systems that need to keep pace with that growth. You know what needs fixing — you need someone to fix it without derailing everything else.
We also work with established companies running lean digital teams. If your last website refresh was five years ago and you are still maintaining it with two people and a spreadsheet, we can rebuild it so it requires less ongoing intervention.
What we build
Most projects fall into one of three categories: customer-facing websites that have become too slow or too difficult to update, internal tools that started as a shared spreadsheet and now need proper interface and permissions, or documentation sites where the content is spread across too many places.
We do not build mobile apps, manage hosting infrastructure long-term, or take on projects that require a team larger than two people on our side.
How we work
A project runs six to ten weeks. One designer and one engineer, working directly with whoever owns the problem on your side. No account managers, no weekly status decks.
We write the handover documentation as we go, so your own team can carry the work after we leave.
Six weeks is long enough to solve a real problem and short enough that the person who commissioned the work is still in the same role when we finish. Longer projects tend to accumulate scope drift. Shorter ones force you to choose between doing the work properly and doing it fast. Read more about what a six-week engagement can and cannot do.
Our approach
When we rebuild a site, we keep your existing URLs so you do not lose search rankings or break incoming links.
We also treat accessibility as a design constraint from the start, not an audit you run at the end. Most accessibility work is about interaction design and content hierarchy, not screen reader compatibility.
